Peer Support

A non-clinical form of behavioral health assistance provided by individuals who have a shared lived experience of recovery from mental health or substance use conditions. These services offer a unique blend of practical help, social support, and mentorship, complementing traditional therapy. They assist in connecting individuals to essential community resources, such as housing, employment, and social services.

Peer Support Services are a non-clinical form of behavioral health support provided by trained individuals who have personal lived experience navigating recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges. Peer Support Specialists offer a unique blend of encouragement, mentorship, and practical guidance, helping individuals feel supported, understood, and empowered as they work toward stability and wellness.


Unlike traditional therapy, peer support is centered on shared experience, connection, and hope. These services are designed to complement clinical treatment by providing consistent, real-world support that promotes long-term recovery and improved quality of life.

Peer Support Specialists provide ongoing support in areas such as:

  • Building motivation and confidence in recovery

  • Creating and maintaining healthy routines

  • Developing coping skills for stress, triggers, and life transitions

  • Increasing self-advocacy and personal accountability

  • Reducing isolation through supportive relationship-building

  • Strengthening communication and boundary-setting skills

  • Setting goals and celebrating progress


Peer Support Specialists also help individuals access essential resources and services, including:

  • Housing and shelter resources

  • Employment and vocational supports

  • Transportation assistance

  • Food and financial support services

  • Medical and behavioral health referrals

  • Support groups and community programs

  • Social service systems navigation

This support is especially helpful for individuals who feel overwhelmed by “next steps” or need assistance navigating community services.
